MULTI PURPOSE BUILDING

COMING IN 2008, THE NEW MULTI PURPOSE BUILDING WILL HOLD UP TO 300 PEOPLE. IDEAL FOR BANQUETS, MEETINGS, REUNIONS, WEDDING RECEPTIONS, AND RETREATS.

IT WILL FEATURE BRAND NEW KITCHEN AND DINING AREAS, MODERN MEETING AND BATHROOMS. OPENING IS EXPECTED IN 2008.

DINING HALL

The main room of the dining hall has a capacity of 175. Tables are of the folding type with bench seating. Other folding tables and folding chairs are available, but not for the full capacity.

The main room also has a fireplace. There is a stack of firewood outside the building. Newspaper, and matches are by the fireplace. There are plenty of leaves, pine tags, and sticks around the camp for kindling. If you need more firewood, the caretaker has an ax or hammer and wedges that you can use to split the sawed firewood around the camp. There are also buckets so that you can carry water to extinguish any and all campfires.

Brooms and mops are available for clean up. Trash must be placed into the dumpster trash receptacles near the dining hall.

The kitchen pantry has shelves to store supplies and houses one of the three camp telephone extensions. Click on the “faculties and the telephone” tab for more information about the camp telephone.

The dining hall can be rented by the day or is included with the overnight rental of the camp. All of this is housed in a building that is approximately 32 foot by 88 foot.

The Dormitories are rustic. Cement block walls and cement floors. Windows have screens. Some of the windows are awning type without glass. There are electric heaters in each sleeping area for cold weather use only. The sleeping beds are metal frame single and bunk beds. The capacity of each dormitory is as follows, which includes campers and adults spending the night:

Special note: The dormitory capacity is set by the building square footage and the Maryland law, COMAR 10.16.06, that requires youth camps to have 30 ft2 sleeping area per camper. There must be 36 inches between bed units for fire escape purposes. The capacity of each area cannot be increased at any time for any reason.

Chrome Hill: The restroom and shower room is between sections A and B. Chrome Hill has restroom fixtures for men.
Federal Hill: The restroom and shower room is between sections A and B. Federal Hill has restroom fixtures for women.
Highland Hill: The restroom and shower room is not accessible from the sleeping room. It is only a short walk to restroom and shower that is equipped for women.

CRAFT BUILDING

A 32 foot by 84 foot wooden building with a wooden floor. The building is one of the oldest on the camp property. It is an open space that has tables and chairs for any type of activity. The building has two porches on each end of the building. There are also large grassy areas under nearby trees to have outdoor classes. The building has a dedicated, handicap unisex rest room within the building. The building is handicapped accessible by a ramp.

PAVILIONS

Fern Cliff
An open-sided, roofed pavilion with cement floor in a wooded setting. There are lights and 120-volt electrical outlets throughout the pavilion. There are about 25 picnic tables in the pavilion with wooden tops and benches. The pavilion can seat about 150 people for a picnic. There is a volleyball net near the pavilion. There is a charcoal grill for use at the pavilion. There is a cold-water faucet with a garden hose at the pavilion, as well as brooms for clean up. There are trashcans as well as a dumpster trash receptacle.

The athletic field is nearby and can be used for a friendly softball game. The rental of the pavilion includes the use of the pool during the season. Rest rooms are available near the pool.

Bring your charcoal, food, athletic equipment, and friends for a fun day at the camp.


Sharon

An open sided, roofed pavilion with cement floor in a wooded setting adjacent to the camp’s athletic field. There are lights and 120volt electrical outlets throughout the pavilion. There are about 28 picnic tables in the pavilion with wooden tops and benches. The pavilion can seat about 175 people for a picnic. There is a volleyball net near the pavilion. There is a charcoal grill for use at the pavilion. There is a cold-water faucet with a garden hose at the pavilion, as well as brooms for clean up. There are trashcans as well as a dumpster trash receptacle.

The athletic field is nearby and can be used. The rental of the pavilion includes the use of the pool during the season. Rest rooms are available near the pool.

POOL

 

The pool is 76 feet in length and 43 feet wide at the shallow end and 17.5 feet wide at the deep end and has a depth of 3 feet to 9 feet. The deepest part is roped off for the diving area that has a diving board. The pool has an elevated lifeguard chair. There are three ladders at various locations around the pool for exiting the water. A 7-foot high chain link fence with two entrance gates that are locked surrounds the pool. The gates are unlocked only when the camp lifeguard is on duty. The camp provides a lifeguard from 1 to 6 pm, Monday to Friday and from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday. The pool is opened from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend in May to the Monday of Labor Day weekend in September.

Lifeguards can be available at other times for a fee, depending on staff availability.

Groups can provide their own lifeguards if arrangements are made one month prior to rental and all certification paperwork is provide to the camp at that time.

Adjacent to the pool are restroom and shower rooms for men and women. Also in this building is a concession stand that contains refrigerators and freezers that can be used by the rental groups.

The lifeguard has access to a phone at the pool for emergencies. Click on the “faculties and the telephone” tab for more information about the camp telephone.
